Synchronize and back up your data easily!

  • Real Time Synchronization

Real Time Synchronization will monitor folders for changes and copy new or modified files with a very short delay after the change has occurred. Because the folders are monitored, they don't have to be scanned - the "Building File List" step does not occur. Real Time Synchronization can be very convenient and speeds up the synchronization process considerably. However, it will only copy new and modified files and it may not be appropriate in all situations.

Real Time Synchronization is chosen in each profile, on the right-most tab sheet among the Schedule settings. The scheduler must be started in a separate step to start the monitoring.

Because Real-Time Scheduling does not compare the source and destination folders completely, it is recommended to also schedule a complete profile run, for example once a day. This can be done on the "Schedule" tab sheet.

    Real Time Limitations:

    • Changes and new files are only detected on local drives or volumes connected via LAN or VPN.

    • SmartTracking can hardly detect conflicts (files changed on both sides), because such changes would have to occur at precisely the same time. On the other hand, conflicts are less likely to occur because a bidirectional synchronization is more immediate when using Real Time Synchronization.

    • Multiple profiles can be in monitoring state, but only one will be copying files at the same time. Additional profiles continue collecting change information and copy the files as soon as the previous job has completed. Other, non real-time jobs can still run completely in parallel.

Unsupported profile settings in Real Time mode

In this mode, the following settings are ignored:

    • Weekdays and Time Window

  • "Do not scan destination."

  • "Run as user" is not in effect for the monitoring, only for the copying.

  • Safety settings concerning deleted files are ignored: real time deletions are in effect if they are chosen on the real-time settings dialog

Additional differences between normal copying and real-time synchronization may exist.
